Lhasa to Everest Base Camp trip starts with a visit to historically and culturally revered sites in Lhasa, the heart and soul of Tibet. Then after, the 8 day EBC trip begins with rigorous drive to EBC via Gyantse, Shigatse, Sakya and several high pass. 

Lhasa, the major hub of Tibet, is the holy abode of the Dalai Lamas and is the city filled with full of myths and mysteries. There are plethora of esteemed historical and cultural spots which portrays fascinating quaint Tibetan sculpture, painting, arts and woodworks. Potala Pala, the residence of Dalai Lamas, Norbulingka, the summer palace of Dalai Lama, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Jokhang temple and Barkor Street are major place to visit in Lhasa.

The Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour allows you to witness the mystical Yamdrok Tso Lake and enjoy few high pass like Karo La, Khamba La, Gyatso La and Laung La along with magnificent Nazin Kang Sang Glacier. Stepping foot at the base camp of world’s highest peak is the major highlight of the tour.  Likewise, visiting the monastery at Gyantse (third largest city in Tibet) and Shigatse (second largest city) allows indepth knowledge of local culture and religious values. The entire journey is filled with amazing semi-arid scenery and Himalayan vistas including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Shisapangama, Mt. Makalu and more.

Day 01: Kathmandu (1,300m) – Lhasa (3,650m) (B & D)

Departure Transport to Tribhuban Airport and Trans – Himalayan flight to Tibet (Gongaar airport) (1hr.) Drive to Lhasa (1hr.) – Full rest for acclimatization – O/N at  Hotel.

Day 02/03: In Lhasa: Two Full Days Sightseeing Tour In Lhasa (B & D)Visit Potala Palace,  Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Bazaar, Drepung Monastery and  Sera Monastery – O/N at Hotel.

Day 04: Lhasa – Gyantse (3950m) 250 Km to Shigatse (3900m) 90 Km (B)

Drive to Gyantse via Yamadroke Lake and high passes: Kora LA (5,010m) & Kamba La (4,794m) – Sight-seeing in Gyantse including Pholkor & Kumbum Monastery. PM: scenic drive to Xigatse(1.5hrs) through the typical Tibetan Countryside –  Hotel.

Day 05: Shigatse (3,900m) to Everest Base Camp (5,200m) (B)

Drive from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp, you will pass two high mountain passes – Gyatsola (5,200 m) and Pangla Pass (5,250m). On the way, you have opportunity to admire the fascinating view of Himalaya peaks that includes Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516m), Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m) and Mt. Shishapangama (8,020m) (from left to right in your view at the pass).

Enjoy wonderful sunset at EBC. Most of the visitors admit that the sunset over the Everest is more fascinating than the sunrise, but since one can only go to EBC once per ticket, the group can choose to view either sunset or sunrise. It takes around 2 hours to hike to E.B.C from the guesthouse (4km). Or you can opt to drive in minibus.

Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in Tibet, is abode to both monks and nuns. You can explore the monastery and perceive the ongoing rituals.

Day 06: Explore EBC (5,200m) and back to Shigatse (3,900m) (B)

If you don’t opt to witness the EBC sunset the day before, wake up early in the morning from magnificent sunrise view over Everest. Then, drive back to Shigatse via same route we used previously.

Day 07: Shigatse (3,900m) to Lhasa (3,650m) – 350km (B)

After breakfast, you will explore the culturally and religiously revered Tashilunpo Monastery in Shigatse. The monastery is one of the six prominent yellow hat sect monastery and is the holy seat of the Panchen Lama Lineage. You can witness the majestic view of the entire monastery along with giant Jamba Buddha statue from the entrance point.

Drive to Lhasa via the Northern Friendship Highway with eye-catching views and incredible scenery of the Brahmaputra River.

Day 08: Depart from Lhasa (B)

Your adventurous Lhasa-EBC tour comes to an end today. Your guide will escort you to the airport or train station based on your departure information.
